Places I Love- Umami Burger!

I love happy hour and I love my co-workers. So why not go to happy hour with my co-workers? We just started doing happy hour with each other and we are having so much fun that we vowed to do twice a month. Last week the place we chose was Umami Burger. Yum! There are a few of these around Los Angeles and luckily, one location just happens to be right down the street from where we work!

Their burgers are so awesome- my favorite one is the truffle burger. They also make their own ketchup, which is so yummy with the sweet potato fries! And to top it all off, they have ice cream sandwiches from MILK for dessert. Good food, good drinks, good friends- what's not to love?

And of course, I couldn't not take at least a couple outfit photos :) Luckily my photography friend Sherome was there to take these for me. Do you love going to happy hour? Where's your favorite place?

Relax and Rewind

I've always loved vintage clothing but lately I'm finding myself dressing in it more and more. I think that's why my favorite store is Anthropologie- they have so many adorable items that have a bit of a vintage vibe.

I've been living in these shorts all summer (first time I wore them here). I love the scallop details and soft feel. They also pair cutely with just about anything. I'll be sad to put them away when the weather gets colder (although it actually seems to be getting hotter here in Southern California).

I actually just had a three-day weekend and it was awesome! I spent most of Friday sewing fun little projects like a tie and a bag. Then I spent Saturday reading The Paris Wife, which is really good. Sunday was super busy meeting up with old friends-  some of them that I haven't seen in a years!

Did you have a nice weekend?

Awkward and Awesome Thursday!

Happy Thursday! I miss the last couple Awkward and Awesome Thursdays but I thought I'd start up again today. (The photo above was taken a while ago on my birthday weekend. I'm listening to an astronomy lecture at the library in the Huntington Library).

Awkward:
- While out surfing, I suddenly started thinking about sharks (hey, i just watched Shark Week!) and right then I felt something brush my toes and shrieked...loudly...then I realized that it was only seaweed.
- Removing my tights for dinner after work (it's always cold at work) then realizing that I didn't shave my legs...so I went to put my tights back on, only to find that I had made a run in it while taking it off. I seriously sat in the car for 5 minutes thinking what should I do? haha. I ended up just skipping the tights and hoping no one would notice my unshaven legs. Gross, I know.
- While altering a vintage dress, I accidentally made a wrong slit in the fabric so I ended up having to shorten it more than I would have liked to...but my husband said it's sexier now. Hmmm...not sure that this vintage dress is suppose to look sexy...but I'll have to make it work!
- Going to a karaoke bar with friends. And singing. You see, I can't carry a tune for the life of me and my voice is terrible! I use to be one of those that either had to be really drunk to sing or just sat there singing silently. Well, I got over that and stopped being so self conscious- it's so fun! Tad on the other hand is not shy at all.
- When calling my husband a guy picked up and I said "Hi babe!" and he replies, "Hey what's going on?" and then I realized it didn't sound like my husband and when I checked the #, I had dialed it wrong. I wasn't sure what to say so I just hung up!

Awesome:
- While paying a parking a meter, an old man stopped and told me that he alway loves it when a woman dresses up and then he actually thanked me! I told him thank you and that I try! It didn't come out sleezy at all and I took it as a true compliment.
- Having happy hour with my co-workers. So much fun and we decided that we were going to try to do it every 2 weeks.
- Getting these shoes in the mail and having them fit so comfortably!
- Reaching my first 100 posts! When I started blogging last April, I didn't realize how much fun it was going to be. Thank you all so much for reading and commenting, I really love knowing other people are enjoying my blog.

Color Me Pretty

No matter how hard I try, I always end up wearing colored shoes. Sometimes I'll even base my whole outfit around what shoe I want to wear that day. I just can't help it, color makes me smile! But I'm going to have to get some more neutral/black shoes because I just bought a bunch of pretty colored tights for the fall!

Summer Colors

I'm a little sad that summer is coming to an end. Even though I no longer have summers off (I guess I'm an adult now boo) I still love everything about it- the hot sunshine, the cool yummy treats, the fun fairs and carnivals, the lovely beach days, etc. I especially love wearing summer clothes and I still have so many cute summer outfits to wear- I hope I can pack it all in!
I think what I love most is the summer vibe- I mean, you can just feel it in the air when you're out and about. I also love how summers are associated with bright and fun colors- kinda like this wall and dress.

I didn't realize my belt had shifted on my waist- must have been from all the tacos I ate before we took these photos.
I'm wearing one of my favorite necklaces- it was a gift from my best friend Sharon!
Outfit Details:
Dress- Modcloth
Bag- Anthropologie
Belt- thrifted
Necklace- Erinkeys Etsy Shop

Are you sad summer is coming to an end? Or is Fall or Winter our favorite season? I must admit that I am looking forward to wearing tights, coats, scarves and layers...

Vintage Stripes

Hello lovelies! How was your weekend? It was my weekend to work. Boo (hospitals never close). But I still managed to squeeze in a little bit of fun. Friday night Tad and I went to Matsuri for an awesome sushi dinner, then on Saturday we went out karaoke-ing with some friends, and on Sunday we had dinner with our good friend Kathy. Not too bad for a weekend that was also filled with work.

I wore this dress to dinner on Friday night. The dress is from one of my favorite vintage store, Owl Talk in Eagle Rock. The store is owned by two of the sweetest sisters and one of them even sews vintage pattern dresses made from vintage fabric (I have a couple of these dresses and they are adorable). They even have an Etsy shop here. See how much I love you guys? Sharing is caring.

What did you do over the weekend? Anything fun?

Crazy Little Thing Called Love

Custom made print from LoveInLetters shop on Etsy

Just the other day it dawned on me that our one year wedding anniversary is just a few weeks away- time has really flown by! We have celebrated every month since we got married and I can't wait to celebrate our first year!! This has definitely been the best year of my life and I owe it all to my honey-bear.

Since the first year anniversary is traditionally a "paper" gift, I had a custom print made of the lyrics to our first dance and I'm going to frame it. Yes, we danced to Crazy Little Thing Called Love by Queen! We actually took 6 months of swing lessons at PBDA (they are seriously the BEST) and did a rockin swing dance! We really had so much fun just learning the dance and to this day we still practice it :) If you ever get a chance, you should take swing dancing lessons- it's some serious good old-fashion fun!

Here a little video of our first dance- since it was a swing dance, I had to change into a short dress. No complaints here though- I'll take any excuse for another wedding dress! (video by Jason Taylor Films)

Have you ever taken dancing lessons? What's your favorite dance?

Oh Sugar! (Oh, Honey Honey)

This Sugared Dress has been hanging in my closet for some time now because I was saving it for just the right occasion. Well, that occasion never came and I got impatient- so I wore this beauty to work, then out to happy hour with my co-workers. It's just too pretty to sit in the closet, unworn and all sad.

This initial necklace is one of my favorites- I wear it weekly and loved it so much that I got one in a different color for each of my good friends for Christmas a couple years ago.

Thank you to my dear husband for taking these photos- it was after he got back from a long day of work and I pounced on him right as he walked through the door. I think my actual words were- "hi babe, will you take my pictures? Now? Before the sun goes down? Oh, hello...how was your day?"

Places I Love- Pink Plum Antiques

PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket

Oooohhhhh I found a new little thrift/antique store just down the street from my house- Pink Plum Antiques. I can't believe I never noticed it before! I walked in and just knew that this store was special. They had racks and racks of clothes, old records and books, and an awesome display of vintage kitchenware and vintage toys. LOVE.

This store may be little but it's packed to the brim with so many awesome things. I can't wait to go back!

Do you have a local store that you love and get excited to go into?
